What does Anxiety have to do with my gut!!??

Anxiety is linked to my gut health?? Could this even be possible?

In short, the answer is YES, the gut-brain connection is a real thing. Let's think back to those times when you had a big event coming up. Remember those "butterflies in your tummy"? You were feeling the nervousness ....... in your gut.

Your gut is your second brain which scientists call the 'enteric nervous system' or 'ENS' for short. The ENS communicates back and forth with our "main" brain. Studies have shown that irritation in the gut can send signals to our brain (central nervous system) that can trigger mood changes. So lets do some maths and put 2 and 2 together! An unhappy gut can simply lead to unhappy in all senses of the word.

The brain has a direct effect on the stomach and intestines, and vice versa. Did you know that if you are feeling stressed or nervous, it affects your digestion?

An unhappy gut can affect our mental state!! Anxiety, depression and the list does not end there.

Knowing about this gut-mind link can help explain how feeling anxious may impact how your gut is functioning.

And just as significant is that what’s going on in your gut could also be impacting your mental health.

Feel that this is something that is effecting you?

Supporting whole gut health by decreasing gut-derived inflammation and increasing the diversity of the gut microbiota is a clinical approach which can help with whole-body wellbeing and could possibly decrease anxiety and or depression.

Why not see your healthcare provider for more information.
